Ten-time Grammy nominee and two-time Grammy Award winner — that speaks for itself: saxophonist Eric Marienthal studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston with the legendary saxophone professor Joe Viola. By the time he left Berklee, Eric had achieved the highest proficiency rating awarded by the school. In 1995, he received the Berklee Distinguished Alumnus Award for outstanding achievements in contemporary music. His professional career began in 1980 with trumpeter Al Hirt. After returning to Los Angeles, Eric became a member of the Chick Corea Elektric Band. He recorded six CDs with them and won the two Grammy Awards already mentioned. Eric went on to perform with artists such as Elton John, Barbra Streisand, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick, Lee Ritenour, George Duke, David Benoit, David Lee Roth, and many others. Overall, the saxophonist, who was voted one of the year’s “Favorite Alto Sax Players” in Jazziz Magazine’s Reader’s Poll alongside David Sanborn and Phil Woods, has performed in more than 75 countries, recorded 15 solo CDs, and played on hundreds of records, films, and TV shows. His latest album is a collaboration with trumpeter Randy Brecker entitled “Double Dealin’.” This CD was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album.
