Multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Steve Oliver is a California native and a true follower of the laid-back lifestyle. He grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, playing in progressive rock bands during high school. Influenced by acts such as Genesis and Yes, as well as guitarists Pat Metheny, Larry Carlton, Wes Montgomery, and Lee Ritenour, his band Fragile Glass released one album entitled “Farewell Father Analogue” before disbanding. Steve continued performing regular gigs in and around central California while also attending the Guitar Institute of Technology in Los Angeles. While playing around the San Francisco Bay Area, he attracted the attention of Steve Reid, former percussionist with the Rippingtons, who recruited him to join his new project Bamboo Forest as lead vocalist and guitarist. Reid eventually persuaded Oliver to step into the spotlight and helped the young guitarist produce his own CD. With a career spanning nearly 30 years, Steve has achieved multiple #1 Billboard hits and more than a dozen Top Ten hits as a solo artist. His compositions can also be heard on albums by contemporary jazz stars such as Vincent Ingala, Brian Simpson, and Paul Taylor, as well as in television spots and feature film soundtracks. Though best known for his work in the field of smooth jazz, Steve performs in a wide variety of styles, always showcasing his deep passion for memorable compositions, subtle electronics, world influences, pop melodies, and jazz intricacies.
