She adds a generous dash of “spice” to every stage: Jessy J. Every bit a woman, her glamour and feminine strength shine through in every performance, while her playing combines temperament, skill, and sheer joy. The American artist with Mexican roots began her musical career at the age of four. Classically trained, she was named Piano State Champion at 15. Later, she switched to saxophone and studied jazz at the University of Southern California. Alongside musical giants such as Charlie Parker and Cannonball Adderley, it was above all Sergio Mendes who influenced her music. Jessy blends jazz with Latin rhythms — a style that, as she explains, “reflects very well who I am and where I come from.” In a career now spanning 17 years, Jessy has worked with artists such as Michael Bublé, the Temptations, Taylor Swift, Robin Thicke, and Ray Parker Jr. She has also made numerous television appearances: performances on shows such as “American Idol,” “The Voice,” and “Dancing with the Stars” introduced her to an audience far beyond the traditional jazz scene. Another important milestone was her collaboration with the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra & Big Band. She contributed to the album “Elevation,” which received two Grammy nominations. Jessy has not yet received a Grammy nomination of her own as a solo artist, but who knows? With the release of her latest CD, she is certainly working hard toward that goal. “Terranova” reunited Jessy with multi-Grammy-winning producer Paul Brown for their fifth studio album together.
